Big Girl Bed

Well, as planned, we got Lana's toddler bed out of the garage today. We also bought Callie a new mattress for the crib in case Lana wasn't ready for the bed yet. Here's what the nursery looks like now. Callie will be in the pack-n-play with us for a few months like Lana was at night but eventually the girls will share a room and we figured it'd be less of an adjustment for Lana if we moved everything around now rather than after Callie gets here. We're going to move the glider out into the living room or our room as soon as we get all the other furniture moved around but there's no room for it right now.

Well, Lana seemed really excited about it and climbed right in and laid down when we first got everything set up. We figured this was a good sign so we decided to give it a try tonight. Then we tried to put her down at bedtime and she screamed and wouldn't let us leave the room. Brent sat next to the bed and I sat on the bed rubbing her back and tummy. She would pretend to fall asleep and then grin at us and giggle. We finally figured out that she was just playing us and decided to fall back on our usual bedtime routine of saying good night and letting her cry/fuss for a few minutes at least. We weren't sure if she could even get into the bed after getting out of it because she hadn't climbed in it yet, but we gave it a try. Our pediatrician had recommended putting a baby gate across the door. He said she would probably sleep on the floor in front of the gate for the first few nights but she would figure out that the bed was more comfortable than the floor quickly enough. Besides, with Paddy inside at night, we didn't want Lana accidentally (or on purpose) startling him with his problem with kids already. So we hear her yelling for us at the door which she has flung open two seconds after we're out of the room. She cries and yells for us for about 5 minutes. We check her 10 minutes later when she's been quiet for a while to find her sound asleep in her new bed. She really is turning into a little girl and not a baby anymore!

That's a sweet picture of her sleeping in her new bed. It looks like Lana had a heck of a Christmas too! I wish Santa would bring me half that.
