Lana's New Friends

So we have these birds that keep nesting in our front and back porch. I think someone told me that they're barn swallows or something, but whatever they are, they're here. They love the dog food since we scatter feed the pups. Well, Brent took it upon himself to knock down the next in the front entry in hopes that they would move elsewhere. I asked if he thought there might be any eggs in it with it being Spring and all, but he assured me there shouldn't be. Of course, there were and they were splat all over our path...on Mother's Day no less. So we didn't touch the nest in the back porch figuring it must have eggs too - especially once we saw the mother bird kinda roosting on it for so long. Well, the babies have hatched and Lana is just enthralled in them. Here's them when they first hatched...

And about a week ago...
And now they're almost ready to fly (we think)...
And here's the mommy (or daddy)...

The mother bird is a little scared of us, but she'll come up if you stay really quiet and still (something nearly impossible for a two-year-old...or at least for my two-year-old). Still, Lana waits patiently to make sure the mommy bird always comes back. (It worries her a lot until she comes back.)
